Assessment Results

The state Board of Education received the 2023 Public School Assessment Results during their meeting in Charleston today. The results show a slight improvement in overall proficiency in math, English language arts (ELA), and science among West Virginia's public school students.   ZOOM-WV State Assessment Results 2023

The data indicates that in English language arts (ELA), 44 percent of West Virginia students demonstrated proficiency. This reflects a 2 percent increase compared to the previous year. In the subject of math, 35 percent of students were proficient, which is a 2 percent increase from the 33 percent proficiency rate in 2022. Additionally, there was a 1 percent increase in science proficiency, with 29 percent of students being proficient in 2023, up from 28 percent in 2022.
